Spotify Log In with Facebook Issue: What's Going On?

Spotify users have been experiencing a frustrating issue lately where their friend feed remains empty even after logging in successfully using their Facebook account. The problem seems to be affecting mostly Windows and macOS users, although there has been no confirmation on whether mobile users are also affected.

The Spotify Community suggests that users of the mobile app might be facing similar issues, but there have been no updates from Spotify staff members or official statements regarding this matter. The dedicated issue thread created by a Spotify Community Moderator in August 2021 states that the relevant teams are working to fix the problem, but it's unclear what the exact cause is.

Many users have reported trying various workarounds, such as updating their `/etc/hosts` file, logging out and back in, or turning off and on the 'See what your friends are playing' feature. However, these solutions do not seem to be effective in resolving the issue.

One user attempted to log in using Facebook and found that their existing friends had disappeared, leaving only a 'Connect with Facebook' button or the message 'You have 0 friends on Spotify.' This is despite knowing that all of their friends on Facebook are also on Spotify.

In addition, users who try to add new friends through Facebook are met with the message 'Hey, you can find your friends through Facebook,' which suggests that the system is not able to connect their Facebook and Spotify accounts properly.

The issue has been ongoing for some time now, making it difficult for desktop users to see what their friends are listening to on the app. It's unclear when or if Spotify will provide a solution to this problem, but users are continuing to report their experiences in the dedicated issue thread.
